Local government prohibits American flag on right-of-way

We have beeen flying American flags on our home and along the street for over two years in support of our troops overseas. We have been told by our local city government, Hilshire Village (a small incorporated city inside Houston, Texas) that the city "will no longer tolerate the presence of these flags".

Our American Flags

Hilshire Village City Hall - Where outside there is no flagpole and no American flag. Why?

Why don't you just move them onto your property line. I know it's the Flag, but someone else may want to put something they feel strongly about on the right of way. We should all respect the rules and not ask for special treatment don't you think?

What if I wanted to fly the Nazi flag on the right of way? Or chain up my crazy Labrador dog on the right of way? My old dog is a living thing with rights. What about public safety? What about fire, police and ambulance access? My point is it is a 'Public Right of Way' under US-based law. Right of way areas are for the public good. Remember in WWII when you fought for us, fought for the greater good, fought for rule of law, fought for democracy? If you don't like the law change it legally. You don't have the right to force your emotional, non-legal decisions on the rest of us. Shame on you for tarnishing the flag's image and Hilshire's image.

Hey! I live in this dumb village too, and I see people park cars and plant bushes up against the street. Seems like those are more of an obstruction than some little flags. Why cant you just leave this guy alone and let him fly his flags in peace? Seriously, get a life.

And what's up with putting the American flag on the same level as a Nazi flag. Twenty bucks says this guys a liberal.

Why doesn't anyone tell the truth around here? Isn't the REAL reason that all the flags related to the home construction across the street? The flags are to keep the construction crews from parking their vehicles on the right-of-way in front of WR's home. Everyone needs to get a life.

They should put pink flamingos out there instead.

This dear old gentleman fought in WW2 where he contracted polio. He taught school for many years and is a wonderful, funny person. If the flags had not been there, his front yard (city property portion) would have had construction vehicles tearing up the green area. Besides, the flags had been up for many months. Why all of a sudden is he made to take them down?

At a Denver rally today to protest the city's "sanctuary" policy for illegal
aliens, a Denver police officer told an America who brought an American flag
to the rally that he would have to remove the flag, as it was "insensitive"
to the feelings of the illegal aliens at the rally who were
counter-protesting. The flag was reduces to a symbol of "hate" or "hate
speech" and had to be removed. Of course, illegal aliens can fly their
Mexican flags on Cinco de Mayo and fly them at pro-invasion gatherings as
symbols of "free speech."

I read some time ago that in Berkeley, CA., the fire engines used to
display a large American flag (( as they do in Fairfax and Arlington
Counties, VA ))

Numerous "complaints" on behalf of the large numbers of Asian students
at a major college there, persuaded the "authorities" to order the flags
removed and the fire fighters complied.

I wouldn't be surprised if the college administrators were the ones who
forwarded the complaints.

Days of Change, of course, are definitely coming. Its not too late.

You should sue your city for violating your civil rights, the U.S. Flag represents the freedom of speech.

We noticed that the Hilshire Village City Hall does not fly the American Flag during Memorial Day. Do you think they might fly the American Flag by July 4th?
