The meaning of the American flag

"The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing."

US Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, § 176. ( j )

"Old Glory, this flag we honor and under which we serve is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thoughts and purposes as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give from generation to generations. The choice is ours. It floats in majestic silence above the hosts that execute those choices whether in peace or war. And yet, though silent, it speaks to us — speaks to us of the past, of the men and women who went before us, and of the records they wrote upon it."

President Woodrow Wilson

I grew up in Hilshire Village and Mr. Ruthstrom was a positive role model for all us kids on what a real hero is all about. Give him a break and go chase loose dogs or the "Creek Boys" may resurrect. Joe Woods

My family lived in HV for twenty years and knows Woody to be a great citizen, friend, and patriot. There are more important issues you could spend all this energy on than harrassing an old man whois a vet, has taught school, and lived with challenges greater than any of us could face!

i WAS AT THE cITY cOUNCIL MEETING WHEN THIS CAME UP AND THE ISSUE IS not ABOUT aMERICAN FLAGS, BUT THE BLOCKING OF THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY. tHE mAOR SUGGESTED THAT MR. rUTHSTROM SIMPLY MOVE HIS FLAGS BACK ABOUT 10 FEET. THAT'S WHAT THE FUSS IS ABOUT.

I was at the meeting too, and 10 feet would still be on the city right-of-way. You must be one of those city counselmen.

Hey! Everybody puts their garbage on the side of the road, and no one complains about that blocking the right-of-way, so what is wrong with some American flags?

I wonder if the city would give Mr. Ruthstrom a permit to have his flags on the right-of-way??? Ha ha...

I support your ideals, but, most respectfully sir, why don't you place your flags near the street on your property just beyond the public right of way? This would be small change that would not significantly lessen the impact of your flags' statement. Best regards and thanks for your service to the USA and HV.

I dont know what all the fuss is about. They've been out there for two years in their right-of-way. Does it take two years for the Gestapo to complain?

Does the old man in the wheelchair have to get off the right-of-way?
